This recital is curated to explore the various and tumultuous experiences of love. Each piece was chosen to to embody some aspect of the experience; fascination, flirtation, lust, contentment, joy, despair, restoration, and unending trust. It is my hope that the journey through the text, history, and performance of this music, might bring us all to some understanding of our own experiences in love. "Eros, again now, the loosener of limbs troubles me, Bittersweet, sly, uncontrollable creature." Sappho In Plato's Symposium, Aristophanes offers insight to the origin of love in human existence. In the beginning, human beings had 2 legs, 2 arms, and 2 faces. Zeus became enraged that the strength and autonomy of these beings. He used his lightning bolts to split them in two, dooming them, for the rest of their existence, to constantly search the earth for their other half. This endless longing search for completion is what we call love. Therefore- It is no matter where in the world, when in time, nor what language you speak; In life, and even in death, there is ALWAYS love. OCTOBER
